Best piece of Internet Marketing Advice
This is a question that regularly gets asked on Internet marketing forums: what is the best piece of Internet Marketing Advice you have been given?
So I thought I would give my answer here.
If you have absorbed as much Internet marketing information as I have, then the information tends to get a little bit blurred as to who gave what advice.
It may be hard to put a finger on “The Best” piece of advice. But one piece of advice that has stood out for me over the years came from a guy called Joshua Shafran, and to sum it up in a nutshell, it was to sell something “real” online first (rather than affiliate info products). This could be selling things on EBay and Amazon, or selling a service like writing articles or website set up. Basically utilize your existing skills, knowledge, abilities and/or sell-able items, to make money. This goes against some of the advice I received when I was starting out, such as: never sell your time for dollars. Or the idea that making money online is not about selling! How many times have you seen the immortal line “No Selling Involved” on a sales page? Personally I think it is important to have an understanding and experience of how to sell.
I think the above advice is good because it puts you in a “sellers” mindset instead of a buyer/learners mindset. It builds confidence due to the fact that you are making money from the start. While it is important to keep learning, some people stay stuck in this “buyer/learner” mindset for years but never make any money.
This also seems to tie into something I read on a blog post by respected Internet marketer Jim Cockrum about where to start with an Internet business. He examines different Internet business opportunities based on how easy they are to start and run and how stable or risky they are. Here is his image below:
As you can see, the easiest way to start an Internet business is with EBay and Amazon, although EBay is becoming more risky, selling through Amazon (FBA means fulfillment by Amazon i.e. you send your stock to Amazon and they post it for you) is becoming more stable.
He explains the graph in more depth on his blog, which is well worth checking out here.
Notice that affiliate marketing is in the hard to start, moderate to risky end of the graph. I will be writing about this aspect of the graph in my next post.
Free Affiliate Marketing Training
This post is about finding free affiliate marketing training and affiliate marketing tips.
Even if you are just starting out with affiliate marketing you may know that there are hundreds of affiliate marketing products, courses and membership sites all offering the secrets of affiliate marketing success, for a price. Some of these will be good, but many will not, and for learning the basics of affiliate marketing there are many free resources out there.
One course that offers free affiliate marketing training and strategies is Affilorama. This is quite a well established site and although they do offer a paid membership option, the free membership offers training in most of the key areas of affiliate marketing. You are also able to check your progress in each area as you go. Some of these are:
- market research,
- content creation,
- site building,
- search engine optimization
- pay per click marketing.
You do have to sign up for a free account to access the training and they will probably make you an offer for a paid membership, but free membership still provides good training resources.
Another popular internet marketing membership program, Nicheology, has also started to offer free affiliate marketing training. Their paid membership has been around for several years and is related to niche marketing, but they have just started providing free affiliate marketing training. It is still new but they look like they are updating it every month, also you do not have to sign up for any free membership and can be found here.
If you are more interested in promoting CPA offers, Wolf Storm Media have really started to stand out in the world of CPA marketing, for providing great affiliate marketing training, and providing useful affiliate marketing tips. This may be more of a resources for relatively experienced marketers, as CPA networks usually have a rigorous application process. You would need to sign up to Wolf Storm Media to benefit from the full resources which you can do here. They do however provide some useful training content on their blog which can be found here.
More options to find affiliate marketing tips is to participate in affiliate and internet marketing forums, although they probably don’t offer structured training, you can learn new tips and strategies. This also applies to blogs, you can often find some affiliate marketing tips on related blogs. You can search for affiliate marketing blogs and add their RSS feeds to your reader.
Another tip related to this area is to find products that offer good affiliate marketing resources like free eBooks to give away or squeeze page templates, as well as training.
One great example of an an affiliate product which offers some fantastic resources and training is DubTurbo. Although it is in a very specific niche, it is a good example of a product with a great affiliate program. You can check it out here.
Well that about wraps it up, I hope you found the information useful. Also, if you know of any other good places let us know with a comment.
Most important Affiliate Marketing Tip?
In this post I am going to go over some affiliate marketing tips related to getting to know a target audience. This is a pretty fundamental thing to get right but many affiliate marketing beginners get it wrong. They may focus on trying to promote products or services that they think will sell well (or promote features of products that they think are important). The exception to this is if you are a fan of a product or service yourself, but it is still worth getting to know the wider audience, after all, you might be using the product for a different reason than most, or you may be a minority user.
Finding out what others think is important about a product is very useful because you will know what features are important when promoting it. Reading reviews that people have left for products is a great way to find this out. This is easy for physical products, as there are usually a lot of reviews on Amazon. For other products, such as Clickbank ones, it can be a good idea to find reviews on forums rather than searching on Google as you tend to get a lot of “promo” reviews in the search results.
Understanding the problems people in your target market face can also be vitally important. Again forums and product reviews on places like Amazon are great places to find this. Also yahoo answers can be good for finding out this information. Some products are purely problem based like cures for this and that, but others may address problems in a more subtle way. Highlighting how a product or offer may potentially solve a problem will be important.
You can also get to know a target audience en mass by by doing demographic research.
You can find out demographic data from sites such as quantcast.com. You can enter a popular site related to your market (could even be the product page itself) and it will provide you with a range of statistics. The site has to be pretty popular because only those sites are indexed in quantcast. Also, the data is not definitive, but it can be a rough guide.
This can be really useful if you are promoting products on Facebook’s paid ad platform, which allows you to target certain age groups and men or women.
Some of the information may come as a surprise. For example, from my research into internet marketing related sites, I was surprised to notice that on many, the highest proportion of visitors were over 50′s.
Understanding the main demographic of your audience, and who the users are, can also help you word your advertisements or reviews. You mat choose to use different words and phrases to promote some products to different groups of people. It is not really stereotyping, just common sense. For example if you were promoting a hip-hop beat software, it would be a good idea to use some of the common words that people who would buy that type of product would use.
Well, I hope you find these tips useful, and ask? Are these the most important affiliate marketing tips for promoting products online?
Affiliate marketing tips for beginners
Although there are many affiliate marketing tips that can help increase your affiliate commissions, I’ve found a list below that I think would be good for beginners. They are not so much “affiliate marketing tips” but rather “tips for affiliate marketers”. This is because they provide a basic overview of a foundation and process for starting out with affiliate marketing.
The list below was found in a PLR e-book I found on my hard drive when I was doing a search for “affiliate marketing tips” to write about for this blog. But I think it must have been an above average report because I found the information really useful. I’ve “sexed” it up a bit (which is what you are supposed to do with PLR stuff I’ve been told) by rewriting large parts of it. That being said, I hope you find it useful!
Creating a Process for an affiliate marketing business.
Having a stable, regular process in place, that you can follow at all times, is one of the most important things a serious affiliate marketer needs. Although we will all have different priorities when creating a process, there is still a core set of important factors to keep in mind and work with:
- Daily Action – One of the things which separates highly successful people from others is that they do what they need to do on a consistent basis. You need to make daily progress toward your goals by spending time each and every day working on something that helps your business. That definitely does not include spending 5 hours reading emails or finding new “info products” that claim to help you but often lead you off course. It means taking real, measurable action on a project and building websites. Taking action is one of the best ways to learn.
- Time Management – Managing your time will be a huge deal. By this, I mean you should have a list of things to get done each day – approximately 30% of whatever you have time for that day. If you have 10 hours to work, give yourself 3 hours of things that absolutely must get done. Everything else is a bonus. Additionally, saving email for last can be a big time saver.
- Outsource ASAP – Trying to do everything yourself will slow you down considerably. Try to set aside a good chunk of your affiliate income – preferably around 50% if you can – to outsource new tasks, hire people and make sure you can balance income with new projects and results.
- Set Specific, Measured Goals – Goals are vitally important and will help you measure how successful you are being. Create a list of both short term and long term goals, then measure how you proceed towards them from day to day, week to week, and month to month. This habit and mindset will be vital for when you start testing and tweaking websites and campaigns.
- Keep learning – This is one of the key things! Your knowledge will help determine where you stand against other marketers. Spend as much time as possible reading books, listening to podcasts, and watching videos. Although, do not let your learning replace your action, though. Instead, supplement the websites you build and the actions you take with your learning. A good tip is to calculate how much time you spend on “entertainment” (such as watching TV or playing video games) and replace a good chunk of that time with increasing your knowledge.
- Stay Fit and Healthy – The importance of staying fit and health cannot be emphasized enough. You will be spending many hours in front of a computer. Do you know how quickly you can get sick and fall behind on your tasks if you don’t exercise daily, eat well, and get sleep? Just try to be productive when you’re eating a back of chips every afternoon – it isn’t easy. Ultimately, the healthier you are the sharper your mind.
Like I said earlier, there are many affiliate marketing tips out there, and I will be providing more on this blog in the future, but those above are very important,in my opinion, for beginning affiliate marketing.
Niche Traffic Builder review
Over the past 2 weeks I have been using a system called “Niche Traffic Builder” to create niche affiliate sites and thought I would write a review about it. Basically, it is a system for researching a niche, finding openings in that niche so you can break into it, and creating targeted websites.
Here is brief definition of the system :
Niche Traffic Builder™ is a complete system designed specifically to give you the ability to get large volumes of great quality, 100% FREE traffic from the search engines. This is done using our proven “Traffic Accumulation Model” method of SEO traffic strategy, and the Niche Traffic Builder™ software to help you get it done properly… and FAST!
So that is the basic outline. But what is included in the system?
Training.
I have found the training to be very good with this system, the philosophy behind niche traffic builder is to find exact match keywords that have decent search traffic (usually around 1000 to 3000 per month based on competition), are not too competitive, but could still generate profit (i.e. they may be closely linked to to an affiliate offer or they would generate a high adsense cost per click if you displayed adsense on your site). Then you find an exact match domain (dot com, net, org, info) for the keyword with or without hyphens.
The training also covers the other main elements of the niche site building process: building the websites, creating content, monetization, SEO and traffic.
The system also has tools or other options for each of these steps. Below I give a brief appraisal of the tools and content creation/SEO options.
Research tool.
The research tool included with the niche traffic builder system handles the process of finding and selecting keywords and exact match domain names very well. Although I did use market samurai as well in the process. It took me a few hours to use the tool to research a niche and find 7 keywords which met the criteria above and had decent exact match domains.
Website building tool.
This is another great tool, and a highlight of the system. You can have a website created in a matter of minutes, easily add your affiliate banners and adsense code. The designs available at present are a bit limited at this time and it may take a bit of extra time to create a really great looking site. But for me this tool is a great asset. I actually hate creating websites from scratch and even setting up a blog is a chore, so this tool really saves a lot of time. Plus it is designed to take care of all the onsite SEO.
All the pages come with these important pages which Google views as important: Contact Us, Privacy Policy, Terms Of Use, Affiliate Disclaimer. They also contain a Site Map and RSS feed. The sites are HTML and not wordpress blogs, but I think these are better for affiliate marketing pages.
Content buying.
The Niche Traffic Builder system comes with its own content writing service where you can pay for the articles to be written for your site. I have not used this service yet as I wrote my own content. With the system a good 500 word article will cost $11.50 and a 500 word rewrite will cost $10. There is no obligation to use this service, it is easy to add your own content to a website.
SEO.
The Niche Traffic Builder system offers a free basic FREE Article/Blog Network Submission but also a paid service offering services like submissions to link directories, article directories, social bookmarks, press releases and EzineArticle.com. These range in cost from Directory Submission at $17 to Press Releases at $147. Again, there is no obligation to use these services. You can do it yourself or find other options.
Verdict?
A great way to start building a Niche Marketing business!
Having created sites with this system I can honestly say that it is a great to start building an affiliate marketing business.
Good Points:
- Great training. Everything you need is included with the training. Plus there is an active forum for asking questions and further learning. Excellent research concept for breaking into the search engine top rankings with good keywords that you can rank for even as a beginner.
- Everything you need in one place. One of the problems I have found in the past with developing niche sites is that you have to keep changing software tools, information sources, outsourcers, etc. depending on which part of the process you are on. With the Niche Traffic Builder system you have everything in one place.
Downsides:
- The additional costs of having content created and paying for SEO services could put some people off. There may be more affordable options on the market. But you do not have to
If you are interested in building a successful online business with affiliate marketing then definitely check out Niche Traffic Builder Here.
Want to see one of my sites?
I’m not going to publicly display the niche I chose, and sites I have created to the general public, but if you are interested in checking out a real site created with this system then leave a comment below and I will get back to you personally with details, so you can take a look at a site I have created with the system.
Back to Marketing
This blog is changing (again).
Hi there! This is just a quick post about the new direction this blog will be taking.
I have decided, after much deliberation, to go back to writing about Internet Marketing and make that subject the main focus of this blog.
Why?
Well, marketing is something that I do every day and read about every day, so I know more about it than I do about most other topics (apart from music perhaps) and feel I could provide better information and insights on this subject.
I think I would have more to say on the subject of marketing and I know more about the subject than I do about blogging. I also found writing just about blogging to be too restrictive for me personally.
But anyway, that is what this blog will be about from today.
What to expect in the future.
Internet marketing news, tactics and stratergies, focusing primarily on niche and affiliate marketing tips. I will write about what I am doing and how I am doing it, so the subjects might change if I start working in a different area.
A focus on new developments in the world of Internet Marketing. I love to embrace the new trends in this industry and aim to explore new developments as much as possible.
Real reviews. One thing I really hate is those “promo” reviews you see that give you no critical information, just a semi disguised sales pitch. so I will provide real honest reviews about the products, courses, tools that I am using and only the ones I am using or have used.
Now all that needs to be done is to change the name of this blog and maybe get a swanky header

Blogging is Big Business.
I was just going over some of the training material from the Blog Success blog training program after returning from a holiday recently, and found some pretty interesting information about just how big blogging is. I think reading this kind of information can help us stay motivated if we start doubting that we can really run a succesfull blog related business. Although some of the information is a bit old, I imagine that the reach and power of blogging has only increased.

Creating Time for Blogging
What is your vision of a perfect job?
Maybe one where you are your own boss? Able to determine how many hours you work and when? To be able to work from home or wherever you want? Not having to face unreasonable deadlines and demands? And most importantly, to do something you love?
Sounds good doesn’t it?
Well, for many people that may be the job description of a blogger.
However the above vision is not the whole story! There are very few bloggers who have nothing else to do but work on their blog and even fewer who have a blog that provides a decent and steady source of income. So for most, blogging is a second or even a third “job.”
But there are ways to move yourself towards becoming a full time blogger. Maybe the first decision is to decide if you are to be a casual blogger or a serious blogger.
The Casual Blogger.
The casual blogger may have a well balanced life and a blog that is primarily a hobby. This type of blogger can start writing a post, work at it for a while and then stop to get some other things done until he/ she feels like writing again. If a finished post doesn’t get many comments, that’s OK; the post expressed just what the casual blogger wanted to say and its out there if anyone is interested.
The Serious Blogger.
The serious blogger’s situation is quite different from the casual blogger’s. The serious blogger has a blog that he or she considers to be a job – a job that may be competing with other important elements of life such as a primary job, family commitments, a social life and adequate rest. The serious blogger is committed (almost to the point of an obsession) to maintaining his or her blog and feels it is an essential element of daily life. The serious blogger may feel dejected if a post sits on their blog for 24 hours or so without receiving any comments or if the blog’s “hit counter” does,nt register a certain number of visitors every day.
This kind of commitment may take a big chunk of time out of your day, and can easily create some serious conflicts between blogging and the rest of your life. Someone in this situation can often find themselves asking: “what’s the point?” – to avoid this, the serious blogger needs to be efficient and organized.
Time management for a serious blogger!
Anyone who feels that the day is too short needs to understand, and implement, the basic principle of time management: setting priorities. Some tasks are obviously more important than others, but some important things may be left undone unless you are controlling your schedule and not letting random events control you. You need to set priorities and live by them.
Make a priority list!
To begin setting priorities, make a list of everything you need to get done - include things you are committed to doing, things you want to do, things you know you should do and things that you really don’t want to do but are on your mind. Be honest and put everything on the list – this may take a couple hours or more to put together, but it will be time well spent because you are going to get organized.
Important: You will be using and modifying this list every day, so it could be a good idea to create the list using some program that will allow you to move list items around, add items, remove items and save the list. Just notepad or your word processing program will do nicely but there are other more specialized programs available — they may even be free! You could try Tucows at tucows. com, to find relevant software.
Categorize!
Now carefully consider each item on the list and put each one into one of the following five categories.
- Must get it done today
- Must get it done this week
- Nice to do and might be beneficial
- Nice to do but not really necessary
- Unnecessary
Now you have a decent priority list. Begin every day with this list and every time you become aware of a new task slot it in the proper place and category. As the “must do” items are accomplished and moved off the list, some of the nice-to-do items may be moved up, but only if their priorities can honestly be changed.
Too many must-do things?
If the list of items in the two “Must get it done . . . ” categories is too much, reconsider each item’s importance and re-prioritize if you can. If this is not possible, consider selecting the items that you really don’t have to do yourself: things like fix-it projects, business phone calls, business letters, editing and proofreading jobs, etc. – and consider if these tasks can be done by someone else. This could be a friend, family member, co-worker or a freelancer/virtual assistant.
Hopefully you will find these tips useful, if you need more help in this area, you may be interested in reading: Getting Things Done by David Allen.
